Product description

With its full metal construction, buttery smooth drag, and durable gear system, the Penn Fathom Lever 2 Speed Lever Drag Fishing Reel offers the performance you need for your next saltwater fishing adventure. Crafted from solid die cast aluminum and packed with fish fighting features, the saltwater reel is engineered to catch fish year after year. From the full metal body and side plate to the five shielded stainless steel ball bearings, each component is designed to help you land your catch. The fishing reel’s stainless steel main and pinion gears are engineered for toughness and are drilled out to reduce weight without compromising strength or speed. The Quick Shift two speed system allows you to instantly toggle between the high retrieval speed and the low cranking speed, so you can easily adapt to the movements of your prey. Switchblade harness lugs (available on 60 size only) provide added stability during vicious strikes and remain flush with the reel when not in use to ensure a comfortable grip. Its Dura Drag system uses a special Phenolic bonding agent to prevent premature breakdown of the carbon fiber material, helping minimize erratic pulls and jerks to ensure silky smooth drag even during the most grueling battles. And thanks to its line capacity rings, the spool displays at a glance how much line is remaining.

First time fishing with this reel. Fishing for Blue Fin Tuna up to 150 lbs. Really a bit under gunned with this reel but easily slayed a 70 lb Blue Fin that was really hot. The fish made at least four strong runs but the drag was smooth and consistent for the entire battle. Nice that I can use it for this class of fish but should be equally at home pulling in large Ling Cod and Halibut.

paired this reel with pen carnage 2. Perfect fit. Caught a very nice yellowtail on this rod in Cedros .they use these reels as rentals down in San Diego. So you know they’re perfect and can take a beating. Built this rod for Bluefins.

Really good, tuna trip last November 2019 to Guadalupe island used it for the first time for the 100lb + tuna, did absolutely great, casted well, drag exceptional. Ended up using it more than my talica reels. Before using it for tuna it was super for deep rockfish.

excellent 2-speed reel…free spools forever…light weight but frame appears super strong…will be used with 80 spectra and 60 mono/floro top-shot…the only concern is the light reel seat…only using the reel will prove how strong it really is…

The Fathom 2 speed narrow spool line of Penn reels are really awesome. They are very powerful and I use them bottom fishing at least 20x or so a year. The low speed gives you incredible torque when winding up something heavy, and the high speed is good for retrieving and replacing baits, etc. I’ve had a couple of these in various sizes for 3 or 4 years now and they’ve performed flawlessly.

As soon as it was delivered, I had a 2 1/2 day deep sea fishing trip. Put it to work right away.. caught limits of yellowtail up to 15-18lbs. then did some deep Rock Cod fishing. Two speed really worked well when heavy pulling was needed.. Worked flawlessly

Awesome reels! We have 3 of the 40N and a 25N for halibut fishing. It’s nice having the 2 speed for the kids or big fish and the 42inch retrieval for bait checks saves a lot of time.

I’m writing this review of the NLD40 2-speed which I paired with a Phoenix Axis heavy 8.2’ rod; reel was packed with 80lb spectra and a short amount of 80lb Fluor along with a heavy duty 2/0 circle hook. I used this combo on a 1.5 day trip out of San Diego targeting Blue Fin in early July 2020. This is a factual account of the experience: brought 3-blue fin each weighing approx 180lb to the boat in 45-60 minutes. This was the first true test for this reel. Reel feels very good under pressure; reel is very capable… lacks nothing especially in low gear; Without any reservation, this reel is an incredible value at the lower end of the price range for a 2-speed. You can easily spend more with other brands. I’m very happy with this reel

Very strong reel. I use it with a 6 foot rod.
